On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being 'end of days', 1 being 'its fully under control') how worried are you about the 'coronavirus'/COVID-19 outbreak? (4 weeks ago I asked this question... curious to see if things have changed)

huh, interesting, not gonna look at my answer then. A strong 6, and here's why:

  1. We now learned more about this, we got undeniable data about the nature of this (mainly 2 week latency, and high spread)
It is a more dangerous beast than all the other influenzas we had, but largely due to China's unwillingness to admit weakness.
A really bad flu that came out of left field, it'll take a lot of (boomer) lifes if unmanaged but it's certainly avoidable.

  2. It's gonna be a springboard for governments to take away more freedoms.
I'm not huge on mass surveilance, and we now have conclusive evidence that all the surveillance will not change a damn thing if the state doesn't know how to manage a crisis in the first place. Just look at China, they got all the tool yet they failed the hardest. It's not the end of days, but it'd be the the slow intro to it if western nations got the taste of totalitarianism.

  3. It's gonna leave the economy in ruins
Again, this can end in a lot of suffering if nations decide a good just war is the cure for a completely dead in the waters economy.
That's the closest scenario that would end in the actual apocolypse, basically WW3.
I'm not a financial expert so I can only be optimistic about it.
