If cheating were permitted, would you do the smart thing or the honorable thing?
I would stop to cheat.
the whole premise of cheating is that it's not permitted. my relationship agreement with my current partner allows for romantic and sexual relationships with others, so cheating is defined very differently from what most relationships would consider it.
also, cheating isn't smart in any way - if you care about your relationship, you ruin it beyond repair in most cases and if you don't care about your relationship, you're just making life harder for yourself
sometimes cheating is OK, even in this reality when it isn't permitted. like, once I cheated on a test in my high school US history class where I had to recall all the names of the presidents, the years they were in office, and their political party. I had to look up the years Gerald Ford was in office bc I blanked on him, but memorized the rest. I think as long as you're not cheating yourself out of something actually meaningful then it's fine
It totally depends on the context. For one thing, in many contexts, if it's permitted then it's not cheating. And in some other contexts cheating isn't dishonorable. Also, whether it's dishonorable or not, if cheating is permitted you know everyone's going to be cheating so the only way to be competitive would be to cheat..
Honorable. I never cheated.
