Re TYBW: I think that if Kubo outright came out and said 'yeah I was deliberately destroying my series to spite shonen jump' - rabid fans would denounce him as a hater or imposter. I want to like it, I do. I try to re-read it in good faith and leave all my preconceived notions at the door but I can't help feeling the arc was broken from inspection.
To me it seemed to still be going somewhere up until EBTR and then it started falling apart. At some points I think Kubo was still trying but after a while, it did start to look like self sabotage. It's hard to say when it started exactly, as him giving Mayuri so many pages to monologue us to death was very on brand of him but whether to spite SJ or the people who disliked the things... that were unlikeable about his word, we would never know and to be honest at this point I don't think it's important anymore.
