Neil Degrass Tyson talks about the same thing, why not just fix the earth instead of expanding to other planets. My thought on it is, whatever technology we develop to make Mars' air more Breathable can be applied to earth as well. It can benefit us to continue trying to colonize other worlds, unless we piss off some alien species 😁

But you have no local natives to press to work or enslave. But it gets also easier as you must commit no genocide to get rid of them.

And it will be harder to find the religious zealots ready to leave America. There is this lack of pressure.
The difference is that in colonizing Mars we wouldn't be displacing beings that are already living there. It would be harmless (except for whatever harm we do to ourselves trying to migrate to Mars).
