In 2007, the year the Virginia tech massacre happened, I was in 9th grade and we'd just returned from Springbreak. My high school at the time had a brief acknowledgment of mass shootings in which they didn't "train" or prepare anyone for them really, they basically just said if you see tRoUblEd teens with weapons, or who tell you they are planning to bring weapons to school, you must report them no matter how sure you are they wouldn't hurt anyone or themselves. That was the first time I remember a school I went to talking about mass shootings. This is probably because of the part of the country I've mostly grown up in.

Since then, I've seen three videos as part of workplace safety (at different jobs) that deal with "active shooter events." They're not really helpful, they're a basic set of tips that also conflict with each other at times. They don't account for a lot of realities, and they're made by police departments over here which often fail to acknowledge or admit that once the police arrive you're pretty far from out of the woods.

Following the current logic of the US politics schools must have closets with attack rifles at hand and always a dozen or more well trained teachers and pupils who can shoot back with those. It would be a win-win. More weapons for an increasing market more people well trained on weapons. Self protection of schools against shootings. It will result in more violence and makes schoolgrounds and campuses war fields, but that is what people want. Soon there will be classes on warfare, defence, strategic field operations in crowded areas, silencing of peaceful counter votes, designing schooluniforms, learning tactics and heavy arms, tank driving, homemade bombs and armour. It will be heaven for the Republicans.
