Minecraft, Lego City Undercover.
I've heard of all of those, but I've only played Wolfenstein, and it's a good game.
I suggest high rating and award winning games......duh
Honestly I'd say if they are a total noob that they should start with a linear game first. But if I had to pick, I'd go with Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door - as likely a lot more approachable and manageable than the likes of massive open world games like Oblivion, Skyrim and Far Cry games. Plus its aged well and is charming.
