Why is the US election indirect? Isn't that undemocratic? Dictatorship, perhaps?

The electoral college was set up to convince some of the smaller territories to become states under the federal government, by giving them a bigger voice than they would have had.

Edit: It may be the senate I'm thinking of, idr.

It is indirect and always was. And rigged, votes never were equal. In theory you can become president with about 22% of the votes in the right biased states due to the electoral committee. But it looks as if that trick wasn't necessary. The us is now on course to become like russia. Basically the zombie toddler has been elected.

They really don't teach that the American revolution was one of greedy elites who didn't want to cough up their tax money, the farmers and other lower classes and whatnot were largely loyal to the British...Our glorious founding fathers specifically engineered the electoral college as a way to undermine the popular will when needed, can't have any stinky peasants wielding any power
