omg okay here it is… my theory that people who prefer bottom mnho are doms while people who prefer bottom jsvng are subs... let me elaborate !
so firstly i want to point out that i have noticed that bottom mnho truthers are usually mnho biased, the same goes for jsvng biased for bottom jsvng - this is important for my following elaboration as it focuses on jsvng biased being subs + preferring bottomg jsvng and mnho biased being doms + preferring mnho bottom.
first of all: we often choose stories or characters that resonate with our psychological preferences or fantasies. preferences for certain dynamics in fanfiction can act as a safe space to explore aspects of our own identities - whether that’s our dominant or submissive tendencies...
disclaimer !
my theory is based on the fact (?) that irl mnho is rather seen as strong, confident, tsundere,... you get the idea, while irl jsvng seems more soft, youthful etc...
of course i'm aware, it's not always like this! especially when we look at the recent 5kzc0de episodes with soft mnho or when jsvng raps and is just giving alpha. still, this theory i base on their overall vibe as described above.
let's dive into it !
i. projectification and identification
freud proposed that people project their desires and fears onto external entities, such as characters in stories.
doms would prefer bottom mnho and project their own dominant traits onto the scenario, taking satisfaction in imagining someone powerful yielding under their influence.
subs would prefer bottom jsvng and project their own submissive traits, finding resonance in a character who embodies emotional vulnerability or playfulness.
ii. attachment theory
bowlby and ainsworth's attachment theory: explains how early relationships with caregivers influence adult interpersonal dynamics.
fans with secure attachment styles may enjoy balanced power dynamics in stories, gravitating to characters like mnho who challenge typical dominant/submissive roles.
fans with anxious or avoidant attachment styles might prefer bottom jsvng because his archetypal softness reflects their need for reassurance and emotional safety.
iii. power dynamics & social role theory
this suggests that people’s behaviors and preferences often conform to societal expectations of gender and power dynamics.
mnho, frequently portrayed as strong or commanding, challenges traditional tropes when written as submissive (bottom mnho), making it an appealing inversion for readers seeking to explore dominance.
jsvng, seen as playful or nurturing, aligns more closely with stereotypical “submissive” traits, which may resonate more with readers who prefer to identify as subs or value nurturing relationships.
vi. hierarchy of needs
maslow's framework suggests that people are motivated to meet basic needs (like safety and belonging) before exploring higher-level desires (like self-expression).
subs might enjoy bottom jsvng because his vulnerability and gentleness fulfill a need for safety and belonging.
doms may find bottom mnho exciting because it allows them to engage in fantasies that push boundaries and explore self-actualization through control or influence.
v. flow theory
csikszentmihalyi’s flow theory emphasizes the importance of immersion and enjoyment in activities that align with personal interests.
now, fanfiction is a medium that allows readers/writers to enter a “flow state” by engaging with dynamics that align with their internal preferences (dominance or submission). preferences for characters like mnho or jsvng in specific roles might be shaped by how easily readers/writers can immerse themselves in the imagined scenario.
vi. jungian archetypes
jung's archetypes represent universal patterns of behavior. characters like mnho and jsvng can embody different archetypes (e.g. “the warrior” or “the innocent”).
mnho's archetype as “the warrior” may attract doms who enjoy seeing strength paired with vulnerability in a bottom role.
jsvng's archetype as “the innocent” could appeal to submissive readers who identify with his gentleness and want to explore scenarios that reflect care and support.
vii. sensory & emotional resonance
research on emotional resonance suggests that people are drawn to narratives that evoke strong emotional or sensory reactions.
doms may enjoy bottom mnho because it evokes the emotional satisfaction of “taming” or influencing a confident character.
subs might prefer bottom jsvng because his vulnerability creates a sense of safety and emotional intimacy.
that's my take. this is purely a /theory/ ! i am in no way trying to force any character traits on neither jsvng nor mnho nor the fans. it's just what i've gathered and personally think, based on my knowledge.
Hi anon, thank you for sharing your theory with us!!!! It was very interesting to read. As a dom with a preference for bottom mimo (both sub & dom) I can relate to some of your points!
I have to say that I'm not a big fan of this general image of mimo being the strong, confident masculine man and jsng just being sweet and soft etc. But I realize that a lot of people perceive it that way, so I understand why your theory is based on that.
Everyone: Please be respectful in discussions and remember that we asked anon for their theory and this is just their personal view🖤
