I liked it, but I'm a big fan of Mononoke in general and I think it's a bit hard to get into if you haven't watched the series, at least a couple of episodes. It isn't very beginner friendly.

The pacing is a little too tight (could have used a bit more screentime imo), but thematically it's pretty interesting. Setting it in the Ooku means it's female-centered and there is a lot of space for discussing its oppressive politics and the way its environment twists the relationships between the women. The two main female characters are well fleshed out too.

There is also a lot of foreshadowing and symbolism, it all ties in together quite well, while leaving space for more (a second movie will be out in early 2025)
Visually the "franchise" has always been stunning and quite unique, that alone is worth a try already tbh
