A person who's drunk is divorced from his/her higher intellectual faculties and inhibitions. It may be true that what comes out when you're drunk is more or less already in there somewhere, but it's not really a person's "fault" when they're monsters inside--that's just something life does to you, and it's very commendable that the person keeps the monster under wraps when they're in a normal state of mind. You could blame them for taking the alcohol to begin with, knowing that they may become that monster, but on the other hand alcohol can be highly addictive / really hard to resist for some people and it's the only break from the constant emotional pain of their life..
We should always try to have compassion and understanding for everyone, and we should condemn nothing and nobody. It's not clear what "blame" means in this question, but it seems to imply antagonism/hatred/condemnation. And no, being compassionate and understanding doesn't mean being walked on by people, you can still express anger to someone for their actions, you can still take measures to protect yourself from them or separate yourself from them, etc. You don't have to hate someone to do yourself good.
There are people who are sober as fuck and insane as in psychopath sick. Should we blame the drinking water? The alcohol loosens the barrier and controls behind which there is more of the true self.
Alcohol shouldn't be blamed for anything, as far as I'm concerned. It's not a mind or body controller. Actions are always the responsibility of the person and the person alone. Blaming alcohol is cowardice.
The person. Worst thing I've probably ever done when drunk was tell random ladies at the club that I love them after trying to dry hump a standing fan but instead fell over. My dad when he's drunk has angrily yelled at my mom and physically gotten aggressive with her (push against furniture). We are not the same. Alcohol doesn't magically change people, it just lifts their inhibitions so that whatever's underneath can come crawling out
The person - once you start drinking in life, if you decide to do so, you learn pretty fast what kind of drunk you are - some of us sulk about the cruel nature of the universe, some of us laugh loudly and sing badly, some of us haplessly hit on the bartender, a few of us turn into rage monsters, some of us are all of the above...it is incumbent upon you to understand what you're like and to have enough respect not to unleash that person upon those around you
