Simon must have played an impressive role in your life!! ;-)) For years I thought the name of a losely befriended girl was Emma. Just because I had heared someone call her by that name but that person called for a different person, not Emma. So I called her always Emma. She didn't mind nor objected and never corrected this. I was aware that people gave me strange looks and that there was some unspoken thing amidst the air when some talk involved her. But nobody corrected me or asked why I was using the wrong name. One day she was told by a mutual friend that she should ask me for a particular support and only then it was that under big embarrasment and laughter and hysterical comments and giggles when the error got cleared. They had assumed that I used the wrong name on purpose like a pet name due to our huge age gap. Since then she always calls herself 'Kates pet'. That is now a persistent joke between us and part of the people now assume we are mother and daughter and the others assume a kinky weird sort of petplay relationship or such, lol. Emma is now a young mum and she calls her baby always 'pet'. lol.
