You mean why ask something rhetorically? Usually it's to drive home a point or to be smug about a belief of yours.

It's to ferret out a lie, so only cops and my girlfriends do this

to hear what u want to hear🙂

to see if other people also know the correct answer so u can stroke ur ego if they don't. or maybe you are not entirely convinced you have the completely correct answer
