Usually one or all pay for the celebrant.

I'd like it best if everyone paid for exactly what they ordered, including me. If a person/people are kindly paying for another who wouldn't have been able to afford to come otherwise, then that's absolutely fine, of course. I just definitely wouldn't want to divide the total equally, because you know some cheeky sod is going to take advantage.

...this is hard to answer. I'd hate to expect people buying my food for me. If it happens - thats nice but unless they've told me before I eat I'm paying for my bit.

I've never gone to lunch/dinner with friends on my birthday.

We usually agreed upon a split scheme: I pay the drinks, anything else is payed by the person who ordered. I'm not a rich girl.
