Looking at your Mario Party page, do you think if there was a retail European 64DD, it would be the same as the Japanese model except ofc being translated? You seem to suggest that units from both regions appear identical to games that check for them

No, I looked at the gigaleak, it wouldn't be the same as a japanese 64DD. It would have been a seperate region entirely.
