Is it possible that someone with a severe, clinical depression can ever live a happy life again?

with treatment (CBT especially, probably meds too) and a good support system that always lifts you up, I think it's definitely possible

Yes, I HIGHLY recommend Darkness Visible by William Styron for anyone interested in this topic, it's a pretty quick read and he really lets you into his mind in the middle of his struggle

I'm sure there are people with stories like that. Not sure what you'd google to find them. I may know of one. Unicole Unicron used to have severe depression, tried to kill herself, was miraculously found and saved, now... I think she's happy?

Idk. But happiness is not a stable state and happiness is relative. When the right person gives me chocolate I might be very happy and when the wrong person does it it might be bad. But when you have a depressive mind you might regard both instances as sad ones since they only last a few moments eventually.

I don't think I can give you a good answer to this... outside of it effecting people differently, but I think happiness is a stretch in my honest opinion, I think there are joys in contentment and I whole heartedly believe that people who have had to wrestle with depression can find that. It just takes a lot though and it's not something other people can give you. But it can be done.
