Whats your opinion about Bernie Sanders?
I don't understand why people are concerned about his age? He's 78, Biden is 77, Trump is 73, Warren is 70, Hillary is 72... they're all dinosaurs, first of all
Second of all, I voted for Bernie as my first choice in the Democratic early voting, Elizabeth Warren as my second choice. It was a difficult decision because Elizabeth is more likely to appeal to moderates in a way that Bernie seems less likely to. Better for getting practical results perhaps? But the thing I love about Bernie is that he has convictions and he sticks to them, and has for a long time. His voting record backs it up. People like Biden like to flip flop when it's politically convenient and I don't like that ... it takes a strong leader to do what is good and right, even if it's an unpopular decision. I liked Obama but even he was guilty of this -- he was opposed to same-sex marriage until public opinion shifted, and then he suddenly supported it. Biden during his debate against Bernie said he'd choose a female running mate, for no apparent reason...? He's virtue signaling because he thinks that's what the people wanna hear, but ew @ that. It shouldn't be about telling people what they want to hear. It feels like an insult if he thinks we'd be that easily satisfied by a female VP.
Third, lots of people voted for Trump in 2016 because they JuSt WaNtEd SoMeThInG DiFfErEnT -- it's clear people are sick of the status quo. They don't want the same old shit career politician that pulls the flip-flops with no backbone and with little true benefit to the American people, esp the middle and working class. Who better to shake things up in a way that benefits the working class than to elect Bernie?
He's exactly what we need. He is a bit old, but that's not a problem because if he were the nominee he would probably choose a good (and younger) running mate/potential VP who would take his place if he dies while in office.
Sure, maybe he's a bit idealistic, but it's better to have someone who at least has his heart in the right place and will at least try to get what's best for us than someone who's a puppet to billionaires and won't change a damn thing. And besides, who knows, maybe he'll understand the reality of what he's able to do and not do and navigate it effectively, compromise, etc. if he gets into office. It's not like he's new to politics after all.
I can't tell you how frustrating it is that people are stupid enough to prefer Biden over him. It just shows that you can lead the masses to water, but..
He used to talk tough on "millionaires and billionaires," now he goes after billionaires or "the one percent" really activates my almonds.
OK this is my opinion as an Iranian. I think if he's elected for president he won't go tough on the Islamic regime. I even sense that he's a bit pro regime. It seems that he will lift any sanction that has been imposed on Iran. I know it might sound strange that an Iranian doesn't like the sanctions to be lifted but if the regime gets access to money it will only spend it on spreading terror in the region and destabilizing it. The regime does not care about people. It only cares about spreading its ideology.
Then again my opinion doesn't matter at all. I just doesn't like anyone that might help the Islamic regime live longer.
P.S: You might be tired of me ranting about the regime all the time. I'll try to talk less about it but I can't promise.
I understand it's unclear whether Sanders would be able to implement his policies in the first place -- due to staunch Congressional opposition from all Republicans and also (maybe, probably) some establishment Democrats. But I think Sanders could be unprecedentedly good on foreign policy, as he stands more strongly against American imperialism than any other candidate did. I think this would be great for the well-being of the rest of the world. As President, Sanders would likely have a sway over foreign policy, without needing so much support in Congress (as compared to domestic policy). Sanders might well get a lot of his anti-imperialist foreign policy implemented successfully. Obama promised better foreign policy, but after winning the election he mostly sold out and broke those promises. Sanders, by contrast, is constant in his left-wing ideology. Although this may be seen as a liability in some ways, specifically it's the most commonly given reason for why people see him as "too polarizing", it's a benefit to foreign policy because it means he would likely pursue his superior foreign policy insistently and not give in or sell out. American imperialism causes an extreme amount of suffering and injustice in many parts of the world -- a degree of suffering and injustice that is typically nightmarishly more extreme than almost anything that exists within America itself. Also, the number of people suffering outside America is vastly larger than the number of people suffering in America. Because of that, the suffering and injustice caused by American imperialism (which Sanders could likely greatly reduce) seems to outweigh the suffering and injustice that exists in America (which Sanders could well fail to greatly reduce). So, on consequentialist grounds (and even on some non-consequentialist grounds, like duties of global justice, human rights, etc.), so I think it's worth it to support Sanders.
He's also the only person still running who hasn't personally been accused of sexual assault.
I do not know much about him. Too little to form an opinion.
He's about the best option there is right now, Trump is... Trump, and Biden is a walking representation of decades of shitty policy that gave us Trump. People like to shit on him, but at least he tries, at least there's some bold policy effort there. I'd much much rather have an idealist fighting for me than a pragmatist telling me now's not the time for me to have some fucking justice... I swear If 'pragmatic moderates ' had their way there'd still be fucking slavery, it is literally NEVER the time for them, if nobody agitated for change, nothing would ever ever happen in this Christ forsaken country - people would shrug and say gee that sucks then go vote for the same motherfuckers causing the problem, it's either insanity or indifference, my money is on the latter
I prefer him to Trump or Biden.
I feel he is now too old for presidency - wish there was a younger individual just like him to take up the mantle. I don't believe the poorer Americans are going to see fundamental change unless that happens. Or if the Democrats will allow that to happen - there is a reason Biden stuck his beak back in.
4 more years of Trump - are ya ready kids? Aye aye Captain!
I CAN'T HEEEAAAAAAARRRR YOU
I think he's too much of an idealist which isn't practical at all. He's not as morally repugnant as Trump, but is just as polarizing (IMO). I hate that he ran in 2016, or that he doesn't concede the race in this year's primaries. His voters remind me of the Occupy Wall Street "movement", bunch of burnouts who never vote for the change they want, just look at their abysmal turnout rates. Something like 13% came out for Bernie.
I don't like him. His personal twitter account shows the man, and I don't like it.
