I liked your random fact replies. Tell me another random fact, please
the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event 65 mya wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs and many other plants and animals via meteorite impact and possibly global wildfires. the prevailing hypothesis is that a small group of small mammals were able to survive all this hullabaloo by seeking safe refuge underground and HIBERNATING, which allowed them to outlast the year-ish-long effects of the meteorite impact. those surviving mammals are ancestors to modern extant mammals
20 years ago last month, a woman in Mexico with no medical experience performed a self-inflicted c-section, and both she and her baby survived. Not only that, but she did it straight hammered on the hard sauce because it was all she had to dull the pain. She used a chopping knife from her kitchen, and she had to shank herself three times before she got the incision right, which took at least a full hour. Then she reached inside of her own body and removed her living child, cut the umbilical and everything, and reportedly only passed out for a few moments after the baby was delivered and OK.
She gave all the credit to thE LoRD, and also said that she didn't recommend performing your own c-section.
Anyway, why does Aron Ralston get a bunch of money for his ordeal but not this woman? SOmeone ask James Francoff, if you can find him
Great white sharks are afraid of killer whales. The sharks have been observed fleeing their hunting grounds just because a pod of orcas was passing through. The great whites didn't return until the next hunting season. Some have been found washed up missing their livers, and it was determined that killer whales were responsible. They murder the most fearsome fish in the ocean just to snack on its liver, and waste the rest like it was nothing.
There is a concrete dome on Runit Island in the Enewetak Atoll that was constructed to contain the materials produced by the nuclear bomb testing in the atoll. The lagoon itself is more radioactive than the waste in the dome, the environmental concern is actually heavy metal toxicity.
[ Again from that Series ] How did oxygen come to Earth's atmosphere? About 3 billion years ago there was no oxygen in Earth's atmosphere. Micro organisms that lived in that time were evolved to live without oxygen. Then some type of bacteria called cyanobacteria emerged that could photosynthesize. They consumed CO2 and produced oxygen as a waste product for hundreds of millions of years. Cyanobacteria are also believed to be the reason for series of ice ages in Earth's early history. Back then methane was the main greenhouse gas in the atmosphere but the surplus oxygen produced by cyanobacteria reacted with methane replacing it with less stronger (I don't know if this is the right adjective!) greenhouse gases. This reduced Earth's temperature to freezing levels. Imagine a giant snowball the size of the entire planet Earth!
The mean temporal distance between my periods is 29 days and 6 hours. I had an Excel sheet once to check! I'm not that silly any more .. hehe.
