i love Airbnb whether it's those greedy fuckers wrecking the housing market or cute couple renting out their guest room. Gave me some of the best accommodations of my life for cheaper than a crappy motel. If I was less socially anxious I would like the opportunity to meet people (some of the hosts are friendly and chatty) and I do appreciate that but also would be one thing I dislike trying to dodge them while also wishing I was interacting more
No. Like everything else to do with the gig economy, what’s billed as a fun way for the average Joe to make a few extra bucks has been turned into a giant, unregulated money-making exercise that ends up adversely affecting the people it was supposedly to benefit. Like Uber, it’s easy to be cheap when you don’t have to adhere to any of the training/safety/insurance/wage laws as the competition. Pricing local home and business owners out of the market while turning family neighbourhoods into streets of identical, overpriced short lease apartments occupied by people who don’t really give a shit about their surroundings and are only interested in having a good time and ticking off another ‘authentic’ instagramable moment is lamentable. I hate it.
Yes, a couple of times. It's a lot of fun w friends if you venture off somewhere new. way better than a hotel because y'all can cook and the houses obviously have more variety than a hotel room.
dislike? Not a fan of big houses where you're sharing the house with other parties but that's an easy fix, simply don't pick those
They had to put us in a different place at the last minute because the one we reserved had a "water leak" and the place we ended up with was in the shittiest neighborhood I've ever seen in my life...and I live near LA and Long Beach. The neighbors had a really cool cat tho that always wanted to hang out with us so it was totally worth it
Nah, I laying up in a stranger's house is just a bit too cozy for me, I don't care if it's the summer house they hardly ever stay in or the property they bought in the city to use just for AirBnB (and screw with rental markets but that's another rant for another day) also it seems like they are not generally regulated like a hotel is even though they should be IMO
Yes. I was apprehensive at first, as it seemed like you're just crashing is some random's house, but they make special guest rooms or rent out furnished condos specifically for AirBNB so it's not so bad. I actually prefer them to a traditional hotel as you can get an entire house to yourself with a kitchen and medicine cabinet, etc. I just got one myself for a trip I'm taking in December.
Never used that. The name is misleading at best. There are no B&Bs on offer that float in the air and there are no breakfasts either. It's mostly and simply flats that their owners offer for10 times the rates they pay monthly. The bulk of it nowadays are normal flats split down into single rooms for the purpose of renting them out. The original suggestion that those are flats that get rented out occasionally and you are slipping into the cheesy role of the owners using their private facilities as if they are yours gets more and more extinct.
