(inspired by Wasserpistole) Is it harder to compose good music that's easy to play, than it is to compose good music that's hard to play?

I think having to work inside constraints makes good music even more impressive.

only example that comes to mind is early VG music, nowadays big productions just slap an orchestrated score onto their game, fine by itself but working within the limits of a game console's sound hardware took more creativity.

We have to ask composers. You don't have to be able to play a certain instrument and write freakishly difficult music for it. For example this russian Composer didn't know how to play the Cello and still wrote some of the most demanding pieces/concerto for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFYz6Bn-3T0 . It is not a technical problem, you don't have to be a virtuoso, you need other qualities. Imagination, simply a feeling of what people will enjoy, good taste and endurance. A brilliant composer who is able to write really good music, be it easy to play or hard also has to be a genius.

The goodness is not in the trouble of the fingers to play it. It is in the movement of the heart by the music. And the creative work is always damn hard except for people blessed with an abundance of music in their minds and hards. Which is probably a legend.
