Why is it so fun to write (without any goals or expectations), a story?

My sister and I used to write so much during our teen years. I thought I was the next dickens. Reading over my writings years later … oooh boy, I can tell you I am not.

Writing it down brings the things to life in a way different from telling or acting as these two need an audience. Writing is the space that allow ideas to be acted out that also cannot exists in reality. That is where the fun comes in too.

I can only speak for myself, but it's the escapism, 'reality' blows chunks and I can craft a world with its own rules and get to live in it for a while through my characters

Creativity/self-expression is fundamental to life and channels the whole world, which makes it intrinsically useful/valuable. And it's nice to be known, I guess, to have someone peer into our mind. Perhaps it's for the same reasons we seek attention.
