hi!! how are you? hope you are doing well :) i do illustrations and wanna be a full time illustrator but i can't let my worries go and just share them online. do you have any tipps for that?
I can definitely understand your fears as a full time illustrator. In a way, there are 2 common ways to get started. Either as a regular illustrator for a company (games for example) or as a freelancer. I personally don't have any real experience as a freelancer (except for online commissions that come up from time to time). Advantages: You are independent and free in your jobs. Disadvantage: You are dependent on getting commissions.
It's different as an illustrator in a company. Depending on what you are responsible for, you will draw projects. It is less free, but you are often more financially secure.
It's definitely not wrong to have an online portfolio! I would advise you to continue with it. Try to figure out what you want to do. Concept art? Drawings for children's books? VisDev art? Character design? Free illustrations? Depending on what you are aiming for, you can look around online to see if it would be better to look for a permanent position in the field or as a freelancer. Freelancers often work for a company on a temporary basis.
At game and animation fairs you could show your drawings and find out about positions as an illustrator. The same is true online. I hope I could help you a bit and keep my fingers crossed for you! If you have any further questions, feel free to write me ❤️
