How did your family's education / professional expectations influence the decisions you made on your academic or professional trajectory? (e.g., if you were/weren't a first-generation university student, etc.)

They didn't at all. My dad's a dentist and my mom's a teacher, both of which are careers I have zero interest in. I just followed my gut.

They expected me to pursue a medical education/profession but I didn't want to go in that direction. So when I chose EE as my field of study they were kinda disappointed. I can say that they didn't have any influence on the decisions I made on my academic/professional route.

Most parents want their child to do well in school so me and my siblings are no exception

They both wanted me to go to college or do whatever I needed to do to get a good job and I wanted the same thing so I usually listened to their advice

My parents always wanted me to get the best education, but they also would have supported me when being a carpenter, nurse or car mechanic would have been my choice.

I just didn't have that kind of relationship with them, I don't recall it being discussed much, if ever - thank baby Jesus I had a full scholarship because if I had to rely on family that money would have had some Titanic anchor chains attached and there would have been some damn influence
