any and all questions about the fic fest are welcome!

When’s the deadline to submit? Also what exactly does fic reveals mean?
submissions will be open the whole month of november! works in ao3 collections can be "revealed" or "unrevealed". unrevealed works are hidden from everyone besides the creator and collection mods. we'll be revealing works in batches every day starting on 11/11!
how many posts we make per day will depend on how many submissions we receive and when, but in general works that are submitted earlier will be revealed earlier. we're aiming to finish reveals asap after submissions close but it make take a few days depending on how many last minute submissions we get.
also just to preemptively clarify, reveals and deanoning are two different things. some events have separate reveal and deanon periods but we do not. if you asked to stay anonymous in your sign up your fic will stay anon, and if you didn't your work will be revealed off anon. hope this makes sense!
would it be okay to write multiple fics for the fest?
yes!!! the more the merrier ☺️ if you do want to claim multiple prompts that's allowed, but out of courtesy to other writers please finish writing your fill for any prompts you've claimed before claiming any additional prompts.
as long as each of your fics is over the 1111 word min (for english fics) and is endgame gmg we'd be happy to have them for this fest 🩵
Lover darling dearest twt is banned in Brazil, will that be a problem in any way? I didn't apply as an author before because I thought I'd have time to do so once my uni semester ended, can I just… claim an unclaimed prompt I like?
we set up this fest so you don't need twitter! we do not need to know your twitter and will not reach out to anyone on there unless they contact us first. for event schedule reminders, you can subscribe to our email newsletter: https://gmgfest.beehiiv.com
we basically share the same reminders as we do on twitter, as well as include answers to relevant questions we've gotten that you might have missed. if you put your email in our writer google form you may already be signed up. you can always reach us here or through email at [email protected] and we try to keep our carrd updated. you have plenty of time and can sign up as a writer up until submissions close on november 30. if you wanted to wait to sign up until you see a prompt you want to write, that's more than fine. if your uni workload gets too much and you change your mind, that's also totally understandable. you don't have to dm or email us; you can just drop your claim if you've claimed a prompt.
we really just chose twitter as our primary platform since this is where the gmgers are. dm limit can be... problematic for event runners and some of the dms we've received have been answered a bit late since they've been flagged incorrectly as spam. we are not dming anyone first and we have no check ins.
much love to all of our brazilian gmgers... you are in our hearts even if elon tries to remove you from our tls
hi! sorry for the silly question but how can one submit prompts?
you can prompt by creating a new "sign up" in the AO3 collection (this is a completely separate process to signing up for the fest as a writer. this is just what ao3 calls prompting). you can find a direct link here: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/gmgfest/signups/new
sorry for the late response! you do need an ao3 account in order to post prompts to the collection.
you should be able to from a moderators end remove the second claim. I’ve ran a fest before and if i remember right there’s a button for it
sorry i’m a bit new to fic fest, do i have to sign up for the fest thru ao3 as well or can i just claim a prompt?
you can claim without "signing up" in the collection. ao3 has some confusing language when it comes to prompt meme challenges.
signing up for the fest: filling out our writer sign-up google form
signing up for the ao3 challenge: ao3 calls making a prompt/request "signing up". we just call it "prompting" for this fest
joining the ao3 challenge: publicly adds you to the people page of the challenge. functionally irrelevant
you can claim prompts without "signing up" (requesting prompts of your own) or joining the ao3 challenge. hopefully that makes sense! they didn't choose the most intuitive language, to put it lightly haha
one prompt seems to have two claimants? wasnt the rule one claimant per prompt or does one fill mean something else :0
yeah unfortunately ao3 doesn't allow collection moderators to limit claimants per prompt so it's on people to read the rules for themselves until submissions open.
if you're the 2nd+ fill for a prompt we'll reject the fill and ask you to resubmit it to the collection unattached to the prompt. so i guess technically we're allowing multiple fills/prompt (just only one that officially fills it) because we don't want to turn away anyone that wanted to write gmg in good faith. that goes for if you're passing on prompts and writing your own idea and it coincidentally shares similarities with a prompt as well. that's 100% fine and your fic is welcome!
we have this rule in place though because we want to encourage people to fill different prompts! if ao3 would let us enforce 1 claim/prompt we would, because we want as many different prompts filled as is reasonable. so please, if you see a prompt's already been claimed, look elsewhere.
how can i claim a prompt? do i just press claim? no need to fill any form besides the writer one?
hi!! sorry to ask but i just wanted to confirm, does prompting and claiming start today at 12am kst or tomorrow 12am kst?
prompting opens at 11:11 am edt tomorrow! all of our event periods start at 11:11 am eastern time and end at 11:11 pm eastern. we are perhaps a bit too committed to our bit. you can see our schedule on our carrd!
if we signed up as an author but dont find a prompt we want to claim do we just silently withdraw or do we have to message n let yall know we arent going to be doing it anymore?
you can drop at any time for any reason without telling us!! the main purpose of sign ups is for writers to indicate if they want to stay anonymous at reveals. we don't have check-ins, and we aren't going to follow up on anyone personally if they don't claim or submit anything. we know this is a departure from the way most events are run! but with regards to sign ups, really you only need to reach out to the mods if you change your mind on anonymity or change the ao3 pseud you're participating with (but you can also just sign up again and we'll reference the most recent sign up!)
as a side note, participating in prompting is 100% optional. you can submit a fic without a prompt! we included prompts because we know our theme is so vague that some people might want more direction on where to start, and prompting is a good way to get more people involved in participating in the fest even if they don't feel up to writing themselves!!! again though, we know we're set up different from a lot of events and people want to err on the side of caution. we really are this permissive and low commitment haha

I haven't registered as author yet because I'm busy and I'm afraid I might not have time and msot important, won't have the brain juice, but if I see a prompt that inspires me and I know I'll write it, can I claim it right then so I won't lose it and then register myself as author?
we urge everyone to sign up as an author prior to claiming any prompt. if you end up becoming too busy with outside obligations to fulfill the prompt, or you simply want to drop out, you can unclaim the prompt at any time. sign ups will remain open until submissions are closed (on 11/30) so you have plenty of time to make up your mind on whether you’d like to participate or not. and remember, signing up as an author isn’t binding at all! i’d encourage you to sign up now so once prompting opens you can immediately claim a prompt you like before someone else claims it
will claiming be anonymously
does claiming of prompts begin as soon as prompting starts? or does claiming start at a different time?
hii, so how will self-prompting work? will there be a fill on the ao3 for authors to claim for self-prompting, or do we just submit when we're done? tyy in advanced and sorry if this is a dumb question ^^
You'll be able to submit your fic directly to the collection without claiming a prompt!
Don't worry, it's not a dumb question. This is something we had to figure out ourselves as well. We have verified that you're able to submit a fic directly to a prompt meme collection for approval without having any prompts created or claimed. We'll post some more detailed instructions when the collection opens if you don't know how to!
Self-prompting (posting and claiming the same prompt) is allowed, but not required.

Hello, tbh i'm still a bit confused here, but I'm interested to joining. But may I ask if promotion for a fanfic is only allowed in one language or is it okay with another? I'm sorry to ask you that ㅠㅠ I have a masterpiece in ao3 as well even though it's only one but I'm trying to make it good by translating it into English from my first language. I don't mind if it's only one language, I was just curious. So I asked. Thankyou in advance ^^
hello! thank you for your interest in the fest! to answer your question, we have decided to allow fics to be written in other languages along with English. not to worry, we will not enforce the minimum word count requirement of 1111 words if you are to write in another language since it may not transfer correctly from English, but we do ask that you comply with all other rules of the fest!
