Your favorite monster/cryptid? There is a right answer.
Well, this is closer to home so I do apologize if this is not the right answer, but there is the story of Fort MacKinnon, on MacKinnon Island off the shore of the Huron Mountains. It was a British fort that was sacked during the War of 1812 after it was used to control the fur trade after which is slowly became abandoned. Because there were families living there as well, some say it's haunted. No one really knows who sacked the fort, either. Some stories say it was a private militia working with the United States to gain control over Michigan. Some say it was Native Americans retaliating against British colonists for desecrating a holy site on the island.
But then there's the Piper of MacKinnon.
Some say that a piper showed up to the island one day during the War. He started playing a maddening tune that caused the residents of Fort MacKinnon to go crazy. They started fighting with the soldiers and guards there. Women and child killing their caretakers and fathers in uniform. Workers easily handling men trained war. A complete bloodbath.
After that? The Piper disappeared, leaving the pristine ruins of MacKinnon to be captured by a bewildered American captain who soon abandoned it.
It's a bit of a Treabor legend, since we live so close to Fort MacKinnon. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for.
