I haven't played too many other FVNs or VNs in general, but Echo, Higurashi, and early builds of The Smoke Room were inspirations. A lot of games that ManlyBadassHero plays also got me interested in the genre (namely Cooking Companions, Don't Toy With Me, Charon's games, and the better written parts of Crimson Gray)
