does rain make audible noise as it's falling or is it just as it hits stuff on the ground below

if it gets heavy enough i could see it. the same sort of really quiet noise you get if you pour water out of a cup off a bridge or something like that

i don't really know the answer to this but i'm going to say "how cool would it be if rain made sci-fi laser sounds as it raced past towards the ground"

i wouldnt have thought raindrops would be displacing enough air for that to be audible so i presume the sound is just from hitting stuff
i guess the only way to tell would be to like...... stand on top of a really tall pole or something so you're at least a few hundred metres above the ground and listen
