I worry I didn’t make it fluffy enough but I did get some affection with SephZack and I made it about Star

Buying a baby monitor had been a blessing and a curse for Zack.

He loved his daughter, but he missed sleeping alone with Sephiroth. Since she was born, Star had either been in their bed or a bassinet next to the side of their bed.

Five months in, Zack had suggested he pick up a baby monitor. Sephiroth was unsure of the idea, but agreed.

Now, instead of both parents obsessing over their beloved daughter in their room, Sephiroth would obsessively watch the baby monitor camera, quickly darting to Star’s nursery at the slightest hint of distress.

“Seph… the whole point of the baby monitor is to just check on her. You don’t have to watch it all the time.”

Sephiroth put the tablet down and bit his lip. He looked nervous, and Zack hated seeing him look that way. He sat up behind Sephiroth, rubbing his shoulder and kissing it.

“I just… I don’t get why you look at it all night.”

Sephiroth sighed.

“When I was growing up, I was monitored. Constantly. I never knew exactly who was watching the cameras, but someone always was.”

Zack nodded. Sephiroth didn’t love talking about his upbringing in the labs. After five years of living in them as an adult, he could relate a bit.

“But if I was crying or needed something…. Nobody came. I don’t want Star to feel like she’s an object to just be watched.”

“Awww, Seph,” Zack wrapped his arms around his neck, looking at him in adoration. “I don’t think you’d ever treat Star like that. We both love her too much to have her feel abandoned.”

Sephiroth put the monitor down on his nightstand.

“You know, we haven’t taken advantage of having the bed to ourselves since Star started using her crib,” Zack lifted his eyes brows in a suggestive manner.

“How about some puppy cuddles?” Sephiroth smiled, rubbing Zack’s hair.

“Works for me! You get to be big spoon, though.”

Sephiroth laid down next to Zack and wrapped an arm around his waist, holding him close to his chest. Zack rested his hand on top of it, giving it a man affectionate squeeze. Sephiroth lifted his head just enough to kiss Zack on the cheek before laying it down on the pillow and falling asleep to the sound of his lover’s calm breathing and warmth.
