milne became a mercenary both to find her sister and because there was no feasible way for her to survive living on her own after max went missing. she's a very violent person and enjoys it, so getting a job as a mercenary was the easiest thing she could do. it's also convenient because she's not being slowed down by too many people and is often tasked to be on different planets which increases the possibility of her potentially finding her sister
