I definitely treat them like they're in the "Current" era that we're in, so around 2020's. It's mostly because I find modern youth culture today to be very interesting and very unhinged. There's a few major historical differences in the setting I have in mind that lead to certain things being different, but generally I'm happy to play into zoomer and gen alpha culture.
