You don't need irls to play DnD, it's really easy to play online. Don't even need VC either. Sites like Roll20 can facilitate easy games, great social experiences and gets you out there for low stress.

I'd say confront them, either they stay your friend or don't, sounds better than being friends with someone who doesn't want to talk because of a misunderstanding
