How do you open up to people about having the sorts of kinks you have? I've been struggling with it for years, and every time I feel close to ready, something comes along to remind me that the outside world finds it weird and I grow cagey over it again.

Well, I'd say approach it as something more normal. You don't need to share specifics, but rather than saying you're into someone 700lbs, you can just leave it that you like bigger people. Broaching any subject piece by piece is normal in any relationship!
