It's actually canon that Jin has run into some trouble with the authorities when she was younger and her heroics were a bit sloppier and caused a bit of collateral damage...And even when she's older there's still the occasional chat she has to have with the local officer Jenny...and she has to try and calm down Mary to keep her from yelling at the police for just doing their jobs...
