judging from her lines it seems like she's in a similar state as the midori we know today. she's accepted the cruelties of asunaro because the only other option to her is losing everything, especially if you consider my theory about her being a relative of one of the first death game participants. As for a (best they could have) relationship with her son.... i don't think so. Hiyori did develop kindness, but it seems he had to learn it on his own as a part of his fascination with humans, considering the standard interactions he had in school was killing other schoolmates and being avoided for it.
