Do samples have to be MHA related? Would it be okay if the optional scenario if MHA is required is only 1k words?
Samples do not only have to be MHA-related; they can be from any fandom, story, and so on, as long as it isn't mainly NSFW. Also, the word count is mostly a matter of preference but doesn't have to be exactly followed to the finest detail.

Are profollos and self descriptions part of the sign up a hard requirement for signing up? If so, will it affect applications?
Portfolios are optional; they can be websites, images, or something that basically describes your past experience or skills. If you are referring to the question that mentions giving a summary of your experience, judging from what is said, that may affect your chance of being accepted. Please note that past zine experience and having a portfolio are not mandatory, but an explanation of your qualities, your reasoning for wanting to join, and samples of your work are.
The self-descriptions are just so you can explain who you are, what you like, and stuff like that! This will not affect your chances of getting accepted; it's only for the moderators to know, and if accepted, the self-description/bio can be changed later on!

If you don’t mind me asking, but what experience does your finance mod have?
Our finance moderator has been a part of two MHA zines. In both zines, she was a finance moderator, but in one of them, she took part as an extra beta-reader. She also has experience with finance in the real world in general.
