What are your characters most self conscious about?
Answering for Darla!
Recent RP events have had her feeling like she only ever makes the Wrong choices, and she's hurting over the fact that she's (indirectly, unintentionally) hurt people she's cared about.
She's never had the best self-confidence due to her mostly-absent mother, her appearance, and some personal betrayals in her backstory. She struggles with self-worth, which is ironic given how much she stresses the importance and worth of everyone around her.
Darla believes people don't have to /earn/ basic dignity and respect, and that happiness and safety aren't things one needs to "deserve"... but she struggles to apply those principles to herself, often feeling like she doesn't deserve kindness and aid and comfort.
She struggles with the idea of being a burden on anyone, because she's so determined to not be more of a burden than she already thinks she is. She doesn't feel like she's on the same level as her loved ones, but she doesn't really see how much she's improved their lives just by being present. She refuses to see her own strengths.
I've been told Chrys reminds people of Angel Dust, and Shanx reminds people of Thrax. So tell me, what official characters has your fan characters been likened to?
Carey has been compared to Harley Quinn, Cherri Bomb, and a lot of friends have pointed at Nimona and said she also has Carey energy!
I can agree with most of those, personally, and I see the similarities! A trait I think I don't see a lot of characters sharing with Carey, though, is the fact that she's... significantly unpleasant. She's a piece of shit and she doesn't need or want to be saved/fixed and has little to no empathy for others, save for people she feels think like she does. She wallows in her worst traits and wants to be defined by them!
Which character of yours do you relate most to? Why?
All of them! I can't really get into a character if I can't relate to them on some level, so all my OCs have a little bit of me in them.
Carey is the most blatant example - I draw from a lot of my own experiences writing her, and bits of her personality match up with mine (no filter, rambles a lot, needs to keep her hands occupied when talking, same sense of humor.)
Darla is relatable in that, in the in-character chatrooms, she presents herself as very silly and lively, but she's actually quite happy on her own and values her privacy. We also both tend to hold grudges and struggle with our inner demons.
Emily is relatable in a very personal way - she was incredibly sheltered and had everything done for her as a child, and so struggles a bit navigating the world as an adult. She shares my stims, and my childish temper / how I sometimes overcomplicate and oversimplify situations.
All my characters are exaggerations of my own traits, experiences or desires/dreams in some form.
