what does it means if i only care when people are proud of me in something if i am proud of myself

From my understanding of the wording of this question, it seems like if it only matters if you are proud of yourself, then it means you want someone to acknowledge the work you put into the things you do and would be proud of rather than something that's effortless, and I think it makes at least some sense to think that way
