My favourite kind is probably canon divergence AUs, or crossovers that actually put thought into how the various elements of each setting might interact, instead of just being "characters from media A in media B"

My canon backstory was never explained in a satisfying fashion and I'm too minor of a character for the fans to have made one for me.
