can i include select pieces in my portfolio that don’t meet the fully rendered+background guidelines in order to showcase more of my art?

You can include pieces that aren’t fully rendered/don’t have backgrounds if you think it will make your portfolio stronger. We do recommend that most examples are finished illustrations.

Would it be alright if I have a piece in my writing portfolio that's slightly over the word limit, or is 2000 words the absolute maximum an example is allowed to have? I'm asking because there's a piece I'd like to include in my portfolio but it's 63 words over the limit, and I can't figure out a way to cut anything out without decreasing the writing quality.

Hi, If I’m 17 turning 18 (I have a late birthday) would I still be able to submit?

Applicants will need to be 18 when the zine starts (May 30th). You can apply but will need to tell us on the form about the issue. We can put you as a backup artist/writer so if someone drops out past your birthday, depending on the application results, you may be selected to replace them.

Haaaiii!! I was wondering what would you be looking for in a formatting mod portfolio?

We would want examples that show formatting skills with written work and images. This project will be in a magazine style so page examples that match that is recommended. If you have worked on a zine or similar projects you can link them on the form.

I noticed you allowed OCs and Hero Mode into the Zine. Are AUs that deviate from Splatoon Lore acceptable?

As long as it could reasonably happen within the Splatoon universe and doesn't completely change the world building it should be fine.

i would like some clarification as to what's the difference between moderate gore and extreme gore since people have pretty subjective ideas as to what counts as what. also, does 'no depiction of drugs' apply to medical horror

Gore and other content will be moderated on a case by case basis during production. We mainly want to avoid realistic/detailed human innards or grievous injuries being the main focus of a piece. Some surgical drugs will be allowed but shouldn’t be too prominent.

i'm too young to be able to apply but i still want to ask if there's any way i can contribute to the zine with my art? (soz if im being a bit of annoying pushy fangirl, it's because i'm an annoying pushy fangirl)

I'm really sorry, but there isn't a way to contribute to the zine if you don't meet the requirements. Even if you can't participate this time, it's always nice to see more people draw horror fanart in this community!

Will current zine participation affect my application being accepted? (I'm currently participating in the Zest Fest Zine and I'm not sure if it will be finished before applications for this zine open.)

Participating in other zines will not impact your chances of being selected. As long as you're able to complete your piece on time there shouldn't be any issues.

Will a portfolio be needed an if so how many pieces, or examples?

A portfolio will be needed to apply. Artists will need at least 3-5 examples of their best work. More information is on our website under "Guidelines".

I know the interest check hasn’t released yet, but do you have an idea about how many pages will be in the zine? More specifically, what’s the maximum amount of pages that a comic artist can use for their piece? ofc if there’s no definitive answer yet, could i just get an estimate for a comic artist’s page limit? Thank you so much!! ^^

We will have to see how many participants there'll be to know the exact number of pages. As for comics, we will allow a maximum of 8 pages.

Anonymous Inkfish · 8mo

How many contributors will be accepted?

We will have to wait until the interest check results and how many mod applications we get before we give a definitive answer. We’re hoping at minimum to accept 30-40 contributors.

Anonymous Inkfish · 8mo

What kind of moderators would you guys be looking for?

We are mainly looking for a formatting/graphic design mod and (depending on the interest check results), a writing mod. We may need others to make the work more manageable and so we can possibly accept additional participants.

For the application, will we be required to write out our ideas? And if chosen, do we have to stick with the ideas written in the application? If I have multiple ideas for potential pieces and wanted feedback from other contributors before committing, would it be alright to change directions?

For the application you will need to write out two ideas at minimum. If accepted, you can ask moderators if you can change ideas. We will have to make sure that the topic isn’t already overly represented in the zine and that it isn’t too similar to someone else’s idea.

What types of horror will be allowed or focused on in this zine, since horror is a very broad genre that can be shown in many different ways?

We’re open to any type of horror as long as it stays within the guidelines listed in our website’s “About/ FAQ” page.

Anonymous Inkfish · 8mo

Do you have to have horror art specific examples? Or can any artist apply because they'd like to try something new?

You don’t need horror examples for the portfolio. Having them would help give us a better idea of what your piece would look like but it isn’t necessary.
