Hello!! I recently started training to be a hair stylist and I remembered that you mentioned you've been working as one for years and was wondering if you have any tips on that? Especially with customer service.....
Hi I'm sooooooooo late on this but I do have some advice!!
Unfortunately, a lot of learning happens in the salon, and Hair School does shockingly little to actually prepare you. It's very important to look for work in a salon with a supportive environment, where there are people who are willing to show you the ropes and hold your hand at first,
This also applies for customer service. I don't have the best social skills, but I've found that the best thing you can really do is be genuine. As a hairstylist, part of what you're selling is your personality, and it'll be way too exhausting to keep up a fake one, so just be you!!
Another huge piece of advice I can give is that it's okay to say no. If you don't think you can achieve the results someone wants, if the service is dangerous, if you don't know how, it's always your right to refuse service if you're uncomfortable.
