Hi, Just wannt say I love your brain cause selcouth, mwah a masterpiece.
Firstly, I'm doing a re-read of selcouth and the amount of times you have referenced Chan getting cut upon in earlier chapters is quite funny- I keep doing double takes and snorting cause fuck how did I miss that before the big event 🙃 ( I thought they were just euphemisms ...)
Secondly, although I had my suspicions about Kangdae and Iseul due to the whole fake human smell starting when Chan was near them and the itchy ears and then later solidified when baby whiskers wouldn't stop barking during the storm and then everything else that happens - the fact that Iseul was the one chosen during the bonfire really threw me off cause since the person thrown in the water is usually someone thats struggling, she's not the person you'd expect to be hunting Chan - am I even making sense at this point idk, but oof threw me for a loop.
Thirdly, I was wondering how long Chan has been staying at the village/ what the timeline is like since when he tells Lisa and Rose about how Minho is someone he'd met a few months into moving to the village, Lisa points out that it's been over a year but when he tells his family about Minho in the latest chapter ( which is fucking awesome by the way) he says it's been 9 months so I'm a little confused ???
Lastly, I was wondering - I know we've seen Minho POV of what happened to chan and we know how his elder brother feels, I was wondering how do his friends and those close to him feel about chan and what's happened, cause he's a human but he's also Minhos mate and minhos their prince (although chan still doesn't know that - he really is clueless, the dude works in the government, what does he think Minho is a politician???) I'd love to know more of the outsider perspective especially from characters like yongbok and seungmin who was against this happening in the beginning.

Anyways love your work and can't wait to see what's next. Until then take care of yourself !!!

Hiii, Rue!! I'm going to use your ask to yap about Selcouth headcanons I don't think I'll use in the actual story so thank you for giving me the opportunity!!

1) Writing all those passing remarks of Chan being cut open in the earlier chapters had me giggling to myself bc of the foreshadowing that only I knew about, I'm ngl ( ̄▽ ̄) Those remarks also did double-duty as euphemisms and foreshadowing (¬‿¬ )

  1. So Ik I said I'll yap about stuff I probably won't use in the actual story, but I'll touch on this particular part in the upcoming chapters so I'm gonna tell you the longer version of why Iseul was picked as the one who was struggling, ergo, the one who was tossed into the sea.

When we first see Iseul and Kangdae together it's at the bonfire. Chan notes that Iseul is nervous bc it's her first time there even though she ends up being the one who gets tossed into the water. And then Chan overhears the conversation between Kangdae and Old Man Lan in the shop during his visit with Rosie and Lisa where Kangdae asks Old Man Lan to help him with a mysterious order. After that we have the farewell party where Chan, Changbin, Iseul, and Kangdae talk about love. There, Iseul tells Chan, "When you fall in love, properly fall in love, I hope you find a love that’s strong enough to rework your principles for, oppa. I hope you find a love that’s worth adjusting your principles for.”

So, Iseul and Kangdae are genuinely in love with each other and are mates even if they don't wear the traditional pearls bc they're mercenaries (of a sort). And in my mind, their getting together is reasonably new and Iseul wasn't quite into the whole killing others for money thing at first even if she does end up enjoying it in the long run (which is why she said the whole thing about finding a love strong enough to rework your principles for line).

And when she gets thrown into the sea bc Old Man Lan picks her name, it's bc deep down she's struggling with her choices even if she never acknowledges them out loud or even to herself; her unconditional, unwavering love for Kangdae vs. her hesitance at the killing she takes part in bc of that love for Kangdae. Does that make sense??

  1. In the first chapter Chan mentions that he's been Yuye for two months. Before the storm where he meets Baby happens, Jisook tells him that those storms come around every four months. So, bc Chan has never experienced one of those storms it means that by the time the storm comes around, he's been in Yuye for (roughly)four months; that also means he meets Minho four months into his stay at the village.

By the time Minho tells Chan the lines from siren bonding vows the first time he visits Chan on his boat (Peachgate, lmao), Chan has known Minho for three months (which we find out when Hyunjin confronts Chan about consuming siren food in a much later chapter) That's seven months total in the village.

The first time Minho mentions Kitae not being too excited about Minho's choices Chan feels bad about it bc he's been seeing Minho for about six months by then. That makes Chan's total time at the village ten months (bc he met him during the storm that happens every four months).

When Rose and Lisa visit and they see Baby for the first time, Chan says that Baby deserves all the love in the world bc of everything he's done for Chan in the past almost nine months. So, when Lisa points out its been over a year, she's referring to the time Chan's spent at the village (nine months since he met Minho during the storm, plus the rough-four he was settling in).

All the action in chapters 11 through 13 happens towards the middle/latter part of september but before Chan's birthday (3rd of October) bc we see Mingyu asking Chan if he'll come to Seoul for it, and Chan tells him probably not bc the anniversary of his attempted suicide is barely a week later (9th of October based on Hannah's and Chan's conversation where Hannah says she forgives Chan). And that's why Chan tells his parents that he's known Minho for about nine months (minus the four that came before while he was settling in) but their relationship took a romantic turn very, very recently.

I seriously hope this makes sense bc I tried super hard to make it make sense to my brain too while I was writing the outline but please, please lemme know if it doesn't bc I kinda went about this in a very...math typa way which is NOT one of my strong suites (*μ_μ)

  1. Oh, I have been toying with doing a few different POV's about Minho and Chan's relationship from the siren-side (︶▽︶) Also, Chan does know that Minho's a prince (when he sees the crown and puts it on Minho, when they talk about it even if Minho tries to wriggle out of it, Chan also sees Kitae's crown) but they haven't really gone into it yet, about all the implications and stuff. (tiny sneak peek, d'you remember how they spoke about punishments for sirens who break rules? yeah, those punishments are like, a hundred times worse if the siren breaking rules is a royal, so you have that to look forward to in the upcoming chapters ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ)

As for sirens who were against Minho courting a human, Seungmin and Kitae were the most vocal about it. Yongbok and Jeongin wanted what Minho wanted, but Jisung and Hyunjin were neither here nor there bc they both have complicated histories with humans (another thing you can look forward to!) and they're the type to decapitate first, ask questions later when it came to Minho's safety.

Anyway, thank you so much for sending me such a lovely ask, Rue, and I'm so, so happy that you enjoy my writing!!! Please feel free to ask me anything else, or just yell at me about MinChan, I live for those asks ❤ (ɔˆз(ˆ⌣ˆc)

Hope you're staying safe, happy, and healthy, Rue!!!

PS: idk if I've ever mentioned it before, but the entire Selcouth plotline from start to finish was based off a dream I had during a three-hour train ride to visit my grandma, lmao.
