How would you explain monads to a 5 year old? Also why would anyone explain monads to a 5 year old?

uhhhh, it's like a very fancy box, and then you can do things to the stuff in the box as if the box wasn't there, but the box is still there and it's very cool.

i probably wouldn't explain monads to a 5 year old...
