Submit questions and suggestions for the upcoming collaborative FFXIV Mini Bang centered around fairy tales, fables, & myths.

I don't know if this is listed anywhere or answered anywhere; but is there a list of types of contributions allowed for writers? For example, poetry or play-styled epics for this event?
Our writer requirements at the moment are that written works should be previously unpublished, be inspired by the theme of fairy tales/fables/myths, and fall between the word count of 5-15k. Whether prose or play-style, as long as it is within these requirements you are fine!
And while we had not originally anticipated people wanting to contribute poetry, we don’t see why they shouldn’t be allowed to! Due to their nature, poems will not be required to meet the minimum word count of 5k—though, we do kindly ask they be kept under 15k like prose.
Thank you for your question! We should have our event website up soon, which will have a much more comprehensive look at the mini bang and participant requirements. And thanks to this ask, we’ll make sure to add that poems are welcome, as well :D
Hi! Will the artist-writer matching process be blind? As in, the artist doesn’t know who the author is when selecting the stories they prefer (if I am understanding the process right)
That’s correct! During the matching process, writers’ names will not be attached to their fic premises. Artists will make their selections based on a list writers submit featuring the following information:
-Working Fic Title
-AO3 Rating (G, T, M, E)
-Fic Summary
-List of Characters
-Ships (if applicable)
-Content Warnings & Triggers (If applicable)
-a Sample Passage (Optional)
In order to help preserve the authors’ anonymity, we do ask that writers try not to talk about their fic premise on social media or in the Discord common room chats until after matching is complete. Throughout the entire event, however, writers ARE welcome to discuss their fics with their fellow authors in the Writer Discord channels!
Hi! I have two questions :D
1) are pre-matched writer-artist pairs allowed to sign up for the event together?
2) what is your overall policy on including WoLs or OCs?
Hello and thank you for your questions!
1.) Absolutely! In addition to writers and artists who want to be matched, pre-made writer-artist pairs are also allowed to sign up for the event together!
2.) Stories featuring WOLs/OCs, as well as any ships with them (be it with NPCS or other WOLs/OCs) are all welcome to participate in this event!
Will you be keeping most narratives to real world fairy tales, fables, and myths involving FFXIV characters? Or is this more stories that could be found across the Star within the set lore?
I understand both would be interesting but have a collection of one or the other might make for a more cohesive project in the end. If it's okay to suggest.
Fantastic Fauxlore’s theme will be FFXIV works inspired by fairy tales, fables, and myths. As guidelines, we included the option of reinterpreting classic tales, as well as developing original ones.
Because this is not going to be a super curated project for printing (like a zine would be), we feel it’s best to remain open about how writers choose to interpret this theme. Ultimately, the purpose of a Big Bang is to inspire creativity and community between a fandom’s artists and writers.
The data in our interest check also confirmed that both potential contributors and readers were highly interested in both classic reinterpretations and original stories that could be set in the land of Eorzea.
For matching, artists will have a chance to preview what fics are available and list which ones they want to be matched with, so they will have the option to choose if they want to work with stories that are a little more original or classic.
And with XIV drawing so much from our world’s influences, we think you could also easily make the argument that our classic stories and tales could cohesively be a part of their own folklore :D
I've only played until the end of HW MSQ so far, can I still join the event? It seems really fun but I worry that my characterisations wouldn't be accurate since I've not yet experienced so much of the story. (Would it also be possible to consider asking creators to include content info such as "Contains spoilers up to patch XX.XX" in their creations? If this is too logistically burdensome, it's totally fine to ignore this request.)
Absolutely! In terms of content, due to the nature of the event where most things are going to be venturing into AU territory anyway, I don’t think you don’t need to worry too much about people being too salty about characterizations :D
The fandom tends to be fairly good about tagging fics that have spoilers beyond certain a patch, but that is something we will remind writers of before doing their story pitches for matching.
If you are super concerned with avoiding spoilers, the biggest issue might be dodging them if you want to also be super involved with chatting with other contributors in the Discord. But if you want to just use it to keep up to date with scheduling etc, I imagine you could still join without having plot points and characters spoiled for you!
We would love to have anyone interested to be involved regardless of where they are in the story, but we cannot completely control what other contributors might say in the discord regarding story spoilers. It will be up to each person who has not completed the main storyline to decide if they are comfortable risking being exposed to certain spoilers if they want to join the event.
