How long have you been doing music before you stopped playing in 2010? Since the RK cast is a band, do you feel like you insert a lot of your own personal band experiences in the VN?
We had some random rock band play at my middle school as a reward for the entire class passing finals or w/e and I was mesmerized. Got my first guitar for my birthday in 7th grade and by my HS graduation I'd been in 3 different bands of varying genres. I took like 2 formal lessons before my parents pulled me out for not practicing enough (bro taught me c Major scale and I still know it so I must have been practicing enough) from there I just learned with guitar tabs.
As for the personal experience... The first chapter features a quarrel over who is the better "leader" or "frontman" of the band now that they've gone pro or whatever and that comes straight from my first bands breakup. There will definitely be more experiences I draw from in the future.
Are you taking inspiration from any other zombie media?
Oh, definitely!
I mean I've read every issue of the walking dead and am a huge fan of the show so that was kind of the vibe I wanted it to have going in. There are different mutations of the zombies which is inspired by games like the last of us or left 4 dead. There will be little references here and there to other zombie media in some form or another.
One thing that really inspired me to write a zombie story is the way zombies are used as a story telling device. Often zombies are used as some kind of meta narrative about the true brutal nature of man or something like that.
What I found was (as far as I've seen) there was a lack of nuanced depictions of how societies collapse would benefit the disenfranchised. So take some very vocally anti-establishment queers and throw them in the apocalypse and see how that works out for them.
I'm a sucker for zombie media, so I was instantly drawn to this, and can I just say that that was an amazing first build! I seriously can't wait to see more! It's not often you see both furries and zombies in the same thing. I have to wonder though, is this like a walking dead situation, where zombie media doesn't exist in-universe, and therefore nobody knows what a zombie is and wouldn't know how to kill it or how the infection spreads? Because it seemed like no one knew what a zombie was
Yes, we're fully embracing the "no one knows what zombies are" trope. We're gonna play with the "rules" for infection a bit as well. While there are some zombie media tropes I'm probably gonna stick with I already have a few subversive plans cooking.
Are you religious?
Only god I worship is DICK
How do I cope with the two hottest characters, Kabir, and Tread, being unavailable as routes.
How do you cope?
Sit back and wait for Van's route.
While the routes are labeled by the partner who accompanies Jet for the journey doesn't mean he won't ever have a chance with any of the band members. Each route will have a focus with certain members of the band as well and you'll learn a lot more about them and perhaps have chances to "get to know them" better as well.
I gotta be honest, I started the novel for Kabir, but the story felt so good??? Idk, I never felt much for zombie media, but I feel like you guys have a lot of potential! Loved everything so far! (Specially the big daddy, lmao)
Would Kabir be leaned towards only more lean, or also more muscular individuals? (I noticed thread uses Nb pronouns, so maybe it also has some level to do with Kabir not seeing himself as gay (would he even fool around with someone who’s cisgender?))
Oh boy, Kabir.
Kabir is probably one of the more complex characters in the roster.
I won't answer for spoilers but I'll leave you with this.
He has a lot of conflicting feelings going on in his head. Mostly to do with his mixed nationality upbringing and the traditions instilled in him by his family.
what was ur writing process like starting roadkill?
I typically start any idea with what I call a "dump" phase. I just start writing shit down on a word document and letting any ideas about the story come out. And I mean anything. There's no structure to it it's just a mess of ideas, dialogue I might wanna include, character names or traits.
From there I move to a rough outline, trying to work the dump into a useable story.
I make a VERY general outline for the entire story then I start writing.
With RK I didn't outline the entire thing just cause the branching narrative would of had me outlining for a year.
Instead I created a general outline of the common threads that I want to tie them all together and work from that to write the branches.
