Do you have any characters who had a perfectly happy and healthy upbringing, who still ended up on the wrong side of the law

I would say that technically Amelia fits. Her early life had her placed in foster care, but she was never treated badly, and she was a delightful addition to her "new" family before she chose to run away chasing Sonance. She was a little wayward, but largely out of wanderlust and fairy tale idealism. She's not a villain, she's technically a vigilante, and an enemy to the G.A.T. Any crime she does is typically for a good cause.

Dezra also counts here. She grew up on West Side Island under parents and beside siblings that loved one another unconditionally. Despite the poverty, Dezra herself never wanted for anything. Her pull to villainy came after her father's death, when she and her brothers were forced to find work in order to help support their widowed mother. Petty crime snowballed into racketeering, and into more later down the line.

Then there's Chrys. He grew up with parents who were well off, and quite literally sacrificed their lives to give him and his little sister the best their status had to offer. Tragic misunderstandings fractured their happy home, and he fell into the wine-light district seeking work to support his sister. His shady dealings are a result of connections he made in the gutter, and the company he keeps.

Sevira was a lot like Chrysante, in the sense that she too grew up with moderate wealth. Her family was a bit unconventional, but otherwise they weren't unlike many others. Her fall from grace was a result of rebellion, pure and simple, and it lead to a disinheritance that left her with no real way to survive without selling pieces of herself to get by.
