Is Megaman not that popular in Japan compared to US like Sonic?(I know BN is really popular I just want to know if the mainline series is just as well known)

MegaMan is very popular in Japan, but from what I recall, historically, it has always been MORE popular in America. But I could be wrong on that. It's a difficult thing to judge. I am just going off of general vibes and what I have heard over the years.
