What's your opinion on Black Christmas (1974), it's one of my favorite horror movies atm and I'd love to hear your take on it^_^
build ur dream movie (cast, era, genre, etc)
soooooo lame & gay but I would have Loved to see bill paxton in even more horror features. him in some sort of scuzzy 80s body melt or werewolf movie would have blown my dick off with a shotgun. I adore his "just a dude" roles but I think he was at his best when he was playing eccentric & weird.
whatcha watching :)
are any of your OCs “you”, as in they are so similar to yourself that one could probably consider them a sona?
OOOH I LIKE THIS QUESTION ALOT. I feel like I shoehorn in alot of facets of my identity into my oc's, to some extent or shape. I'd say abe encompasses alot of aspects of my childhood, esp with having alot of family in rural kansas + missouri. I knew abe's [and adjacent types] growing up, in and around church events, etc. same with shawn, especially when it comes to his childhood, that type of neglectful run-down neighborhood upbringing. they're all pretty intimate to me. but the one I'd say is like, 1 to 1 me, is xavier from our story knock 'em dead. He's pretty much a character I get to ragdoll around and use as a blank canvas for to type of man I want to embody, he looks Alot like me, he has the same interests as me, etc. while also sort of being a critical self-reflection of some of my more 'negative' traits.
How do you keep track of so many OC's? Asking genuinely lol I struggle all the time.
Honestly it's all just about making sure to write ideas / concepts down; I usually have a couple sources I can go to to reference [pinterest + toyhouse, usually]. Whenever I have ideas I usually try to name 'em and draw 'em ASAP, so it's easier to document. And ofc ideas will ebb and flow, and sometimes I do end up forgetting, but there's no reason it can't come back to me later! I'm just having fun. Having a writing partner to help me remember is a bonus too.
maybe i haven't taken a proper enough gander at your toyhouse, but this is one of my favorite writing subjects, so i'll ask;
DO you have any OCs that are a part of a band??? i know that's like totally one of my favorite things to think about, and i LOVE hearing about other people's OC bands, so i'm just wondering!!! >:]
I do not </3
I do think it's a really fun subject but I've usually always been drawn more to horror [+ adjacent action, sci-fi, etc] settings. Slice-of-life band OC's on their own never really stuck with me </3
I do have a friend though who's writing some band oc's, I always love seeing + hearing about 'em :3
RAYMOND SOUNDS COOL!!! love a fucked up veterinarian. my campus has a LOT of vet students and I can confirm they have to have something a LIL fucked up w/them (i have immediate access to so much horse gore.....).
also i totally get it bro. so much goes into design documents and figuring out their backstory and interrelations AND and.!!!!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! i love your lil description of ur version of lycanthropy!!! it's such a great vehicle for metaphors/themes, i feel like how one interprets it is just such a great lil creative tour de force. i LOVE the focus on memory (most of mine usually ignore that part X3) & how lycanthropy taxes and impacts the mental state bwah,.... it reminds me a bit of chronic illness (even if not intent) but werewolfify the fuck out of it
FUCK yeah the end plot sounds so good. all the plot threads connecting to give one gorey beatdown as all good horror movies should
thank you so much to all of this !!! and btw anon, if you ever wanna talk oc's [you did mention your own variation of lycanthropy, which leads me to believe you also write / draw / etc], my DM's are also always open :3c
thank you sm for all the asks & going back and forth with me hehe !!!
OOO !!! I haven't watched the beast must die!! Thank u sm for the rec!!
ALSO THE PLOT SOUNDS SO GOOD!!! i love the setup as a government experiment... especially the rabies experiment. i love u using people to describe characters it gives me such an immediate great image... also alfie and halker have my heart, i feel like there's such a good dynamic there. i hope they end up covered in the others blood ❤️ paltry nerd to horror werewolf... also always love a big bad just adding more to the horror by being the monster as well. i initially misread roadkill's description and thought they were like. A VETerinarian... "woah..... a smart guy like that LOSING it" + the rabies testing thing fit.
it sounds really grounded in a lot of classic 80s tropes that make it sound really fun
HEHEHE THANK YOU !!! funnily enough, I actually Do have a veterinarian character in a seperate monster story; an early 80's zombie one I have with my bf & a bud called 'from the fields', his name is raymond and he plays around with zombie DNA testing and acts as the makeshift "doctor" of the survivalist group. "with my qualifications, how hard can it be!" type of guy, with shifty & questionable intentions the more the story goes on.
but not to get sidetracked by that: i'm so happy to hear someone is enjoying wolfsbane ;v; I feel like I put in alot of work into my characters but then I also worry I don't really have a lot to prove for it when I don't exactly have the motivation to draw, so I love getting to answer asks about it !!
i'd say alfie fits more of the "smart guy losing it" trope, even if alot of his intelligence lies in technology. both him & roadkill definitely help me be able to get into the mental degradation / defects & memory + skill loss that come with my own version of lycanthropy.
and don't worry, don't worry. richie may be "top dog" now, but he's absolutely gonna get what's coming to him in the end when everyone he's fucked up & tossed aside becomes aware of eachother >:] it'll be a grizzly ending / showdown, for sure, especially when the aspect of him Also being a werewolf is revealed.
any particular insp for coming up with the titles of your movies? thanks for all the advice on creating ocs… it’s something i really struggle with still as i’ve never been a big “oc” guy.
absolutely !! for me, trial and error is definitely key. andazol has gone through alot of title changes before it settled on that, coyote lake was stemmed from the idea of naming it after a "fictional town", devil's night came to us from a few inspos [given the timeline of it happening the night before halloween, the sacrilegious themes, etc.]. looking up words that relate to your oc's or the stories theme / plot helps, and at the end of the day there's also title generators online that you can always pick and choose from or mash ideas together :]
other than the literal perfection that is american werewolf, what're your favourite werewolf movies? also what's your favourite werewolf oc and WHAT do you like about them :3
i'd have to go with silver bullet, the beast must die, or the original wolf man. suuuper cliche, I know, but !!
ALSO YOU'RE GONNA FIND OUT SOMETHING EVIL.. while I do technically have a werewolf story in the making with javi [very much riffing on werewolves on wheels meets like. scanners + metalbeast, I guess, if you need a frame of reference] called 'wolfsbane', I havent had much time to develop them cuz my priorities lie elsewhere creatively most of the time </3 I'm not the best when it comes to developing side stories, I have to be kicked into it LOL.
but I suppose to do a basic rundown of the characters I own IN that story, you have:
charlie halker, the main character, who's turned into a werewolf in the early 70's under the guise of "rabies testing" at a shady government facility as an "exchange to avoid the draft", basically. despite it sounding too good to be true, he falls for it, and is pretty much dumped off & left to his own devices after experimentation has subsided and he's been squeezed of his use. guideless and on the road he meets up with a lawless & off-the-grid biker gang [i.e. "pack"] who've also been turned by the same source and have goals of exterminating him & his entire facility for what he turned them into. mousy looking guy, on the shorter side, beard & glasses. think hooper from jaws or bob balaban in altered states.
richard "richie" murphy, the head of said government operation who has plans of making it big & selling off his "solution" to higher-ups to be used for "population control" once it's been perfected. secretly a werewolf himself, and neurotically addicted to the test-serum. catty, sweaty, bug-eyed, and usually found in meetings swearing out the nearest office worker who even looks at him the wrong way. in terms of appearance, think brad douriff, mid-to-late 90s' in glasses.
alfred "alfie" decker. your typical meek & lousy underpaid office-worker type. was accidentally infected from a werewolf bite after safety protocols failed downstairs in the medical facility. after he's fired & paid hush-money, he's pretty much dropped from the project. still struggling to settle into his werewolf identity, embittered, he joins up with the pack, despite their... obvious personality differences. about as close in physical proximity as you can get to an "80's nerd"; pocket calculator and all.
roadkill. no recollection of his real name. actual ex-vet; has no real memories of 'nam except in snippets and flashbacks when he sleeps. failed experiment dumped off on the edge of the city in the middle of the night to cover up for mistakes during early test stages. the walking, barking definition of a mangy mutt. looks pretty much like rick giovinazzo in combat shock.
Where will be able to read your stories?
what’s it like being in love
ASSUMING THIS ASK IS IN GOOD FAITH it's really fucking amazing :3 I feel like I lucked out sooo much when it comes to javi. no one has inspired me this much creatively to push myself & strive for my best, and no one has made me feel this understood and nurtured and loved. him being a sexy leatherbear is obviously an added bonus <3
how do you get your inspo for your custom movie poster things... how can a pedestrian like me strive to make something like that...
HIII it's actually a really simple process when you lay it out into steps. I usually take """""aesthetic"""" images I can find off of pinterest usually of some sort of scenery or backdrop that you think fits the setting of your story, comb through fontspace's selection of horror / retro / etc fonts, add color to your story title name, combine, and then throw it into ntscQT and viola !!!
