"I hope Toyoda is not dragged away to work on the new movie" by movie do you mean Sonic 3?
yeah
What's your take on Ian Flynn's writing as a whole? Also, do you enjoy IDW?
He's probably a nice guy. But I find his characterization and ideas for Modern Sonic's characters and world questionable, which only makes me wonder why the Classic comics don't have such issues. I hope Toyoda is not dragged away to work on the new movie while SxSG is being developed so he can offer Ian some guidance. IDW is cute.
To a newcomer who hasn't played Sonic games before (me, I'm newcomer), would you recommend going through them all in order, or do you have any game recommendations to start off with? (in JPN of course). This could be for the gameplay, or purely to watch the story presented
I'm biased, but the best way would probably to go in order. You'll get to watch the growth of this series before your very eyes... assuming you can get a hold of some of the less known games. Sonic, for all its popularity, is a badly preserved franchise. You basically have to be a pirate to play a lot of the games and have some technical knowledge when it comes to installing mods for games you actually can buy on Steam and so forth. To put things into perspective, there was a point when the Japanese Gamecube Sonics were super inaccessible and the only way to get them was some Baidu link in a random forum. Not exactly the best situation for a franchise but you can’t really do much about it. SEGA might get around to releasing the games on a more comfortable platform now that they're remembering that the Japanese fanbase exists, but at the moment you just have to vibe and get by.
Will the Sonic Noises videos remain lost media 🥺?
man I'm tired
Do you plan to make dialogue videos for Heroes/Secret Rings/Black Knight?
I could, but no one watches them, so it's very demotivating to keep making them.
I came across this thread, describing a release of Sonic X ep 52 with a new song apparently only heard in the French release, have you ever heard of this? https://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?threads/sonic-x-unused-insert-song-and-its-not-just-call-me-sonic-mabushii-kaze-ni-nare.41504/ https://youtu.be/dYenSPOrvrY?si=CMtiAhoU7vWJVols Is this legit?
Why wouldn't it be legit? That guy worked on the Discotek release.
Are Sonic X genga scans rare to find online?
I mean I have a genga of a scene from episode 27 but I haven't seen any more surface on auction sites since.
Do you think your videos will make more new Sonic fans?
In the first place, I became a bigger fan when I was a wee lad watching what few unsubbed videos of the Japanese games and fansubbed Sonic X I could find at the time (15 years ago). Japanese Sonic being out of sight and out of mind, outside of sites like Niconico that I didn't know how to navigate, had an irresistible pull. It's still kind of out of sight and out of mind today (just look at the views of my vids), but something being obscure compels people all the more.
Hey Windii, is it true that Jun'ichi Kanemaru improvised his lines when Sonic said « Shit! » in English in episode 2 of Sonic X? I said that because I'd read it somewhere on the Internet (unless my memory is playing tricks on me) and I was wondering if it's true.
I don't think he confirmed it for that scene specifically, but he admitted to ad-libbing in other shows he did so I'm inclined to believe he improvised for Sonic sometimes.
What if Maekawa miraculously comes back to work on the story for some game/anime project and people end up hating it?
In the first place, I'm into Maekawa games for how unhinged they are. He would take a straightforward story about good vs. evil and spice it up with high-concept shit he found fascinating on that particular day, but in a way that actually said something and stood with people. Military industrial complex, eco-fascism, Faustian shit, scientists trying to play God, implied abusive relationships, death anxiety, impostor syndrome, search for purpose. And that's just the stuff I can glean from his works on a surface level. I'm in it for the Maekawan Pizazz, not coherence or elegance of conveyance.
In fact, I think his peers Kikuchi, Iizuka and Toyoda picked up on this too, because the games the first two worked on, Battle and Shadow the Hedgehog, feel like so-called "exodus games" that they used to spill out all their unhinged ideas just in case they never get a chance to communicate everything they have to say again. They are genuine and open, for better or for worse. Likewise, Toyoda's Sonic/Shadow wallpaper story and December 2023 calendar story just Feel like something he wanted to do his entire life (of working on the series) that he wasn't sure if he could ever convey through any other outlet or opportunity. Reject insecurity and cynicism, return to Maekawa Batshittery.
Anyway, I guess you shouldn't be too shocked if he ends up inserting stuff about class struggle and wealth inequality into whatever straightforward good vs. evil story he works on next time.

Would you recommend anyone to play Sonic 06 unironically?
well, not on original hardware at least
Probably a niche detail, but have you noticed Sonic's spin was animated without CG at least 4 times in X? (Ep. 5, 44, 58, and 69 are all I could count)
he was too tired to render in 3D that day
If Sonic Team devs suddenly became independent but couldn't work on the Sonic series anymore, how would you react?
awesome, I will finally get to play Rub Rabbits 2
Had to unfollow former moots lately on this bird app, I was fine with people feeling lukewarm over Sonic Frontiers by aspects/overall and wanting the JP flavor of the 2000s writing back.
I was not, however, OK when it got to a point of them gatekeeping from different opinions, labeling, and becoming increasingly bitter to the point of expecting something like Shadow Generations to be mid based on "evidence" and whatnot (you probably know what I mean, without mentioning names). It feels like a sense of irony where I feel as if I'm reading off the equivalent of journalist critics throwing shade at a lot of 3D Sonic games from that Era, even for all of Frontiers' jank and issues I still fail to see why that game shouldn't be a part of the same conversation of appreciation as the Dark Era releases beyond not being everyone's ideal image of what they personally wanted out of the franchise. You know?
sonic twitter stop engaging with content that is actively making you unhappy and play/watch literally anything else for a change and I'm tired of blocking more and more of you corny goobers with each passing day challenge (impossible, failed)
