Questions and Answer for the AA FranMaya zine!
Hi ! I've came across your zine a few weeks ago and I'm considering getting it. I'd love to get the physical version but since I live in France I'd like to know if you have any idea of how much the shipping could cost me ? Have a great day ❤️!
Hey there anon, shipping to France is $15.99 USD and we don't remit taxes/cover customs fees. (We wish we could!)
Our digital version is pretty stunning too if that works better with your budget!
Keep an eye on our socials as well, we MIGHT run a giveaway towards the end of pre-orders with the chance to win a full bundle and free shipping!
Thanks for your support!
This might sound silly but how can we tell if we're one of the first 30 buyers? :'3
Hi there anon! Thanks for asking, and thanks for your patience when it comes to getting an answer! Firstly let me say we do still have 6 early bird bundles left at this time.
As for how you will know, we will announce on socmed when the early bird bundles are out and will update the store product listings as well to let people know that it is sold out!
is the standee 2 pieces or 3?
Hi anon, the standee is 3 pieces--piece 1 is the base, piece 2 is Franziska and Maya with their umbrella and piece 3 is the rainbow!
hi!! do you know the exact time the zine is dropping ??? im afraid im gonna miss it due to the time difference;;
Hi there anon! The zine will be dropping at Noon Central Time!
So, I'm just gonna ask this question straight away, because of paranoia... I think: Did you guys got enough time for the drawings, stories themselves etc. or do you consider delaying the project for a few weeks or months?
Because this project has so much potential to be a great FranMaya-masterpiece and I just don't like the idea of it being rushed due to a deadline or something else.
So, yeah... stupid question, I know. Just needed to get that off of my chest. Thanks
Hey there anon! This project has been on-going for nearly 9 months if you include the planning stage, and all creators were given a 4 month+ timeline to finish their pieces. Rest assured that a ton of thought and care went into each piece and everything everyone created is super special! So don't worry, we had a lot of time for a great project, no delays needed!
Hi! I'm not sure if I'm missing it but I didn't see alt text on the latest couple of contributor spotlights on Twitter (mini's for example). Just letting you know in case that was an error! Thanks!
Hey there anon, so we've got a template done for alt-text for the announcement graphics and we're just deciding what to put in the spotlight alt-text to make them most functional right now, so that will go up shortly and for sure in the future contributor spotlights!
tbh that's a really disappointing response from the mod team. at the very least, please provide a plaintext version of your info doc. the current one takes forever to load because of the assets and then you can't even read it because of the dots and fonts.
We are happy to provide a plain text info doc and are working on creating it right now, it will be linked on the Carrd as soon as possible. Thank you for pointing that out and for your patience. We accept that we made a misstep when it comes to seeing if our graphics were accessible and we’re sorry that they aren’t, however as stated previously for our own needs with our own disabilities and illnesses and given we are a small team, we do not have the time or resources to change the entire graphical direction of the zine. We shall add alt-text to our future socmed posts, workshop graphics that haven’t been made such as the shop graphics and future writer spotlights, and we will make sure that this doesn't happen in future projects.
Oops, I just saw your other response. I'm glad you're taking the advice for future projects but can you clarify whether you'll change the graphics for THIS project (at least for graphics that aren't made yet?) Just because it's very discouraging as a writer to see our work previewed in a way that's not easy to read.
Thanks for pointing that out! We are workshopping changes to the writer spotlights right now to make them more easily readable since those ones aren’t made yet.
Hello!! I completely understand that graphics are already made, I was just curious if any new graphics moving forward would be changed to be a little more accessible in addition to the alt-text. Thank you! :)
Of course, and thank you for bringing it to our attention, we will definitely use this advice moving forward in future projects!
If I already applied as a regular writer, and I want to expand my app to be considered for the love letter writer position, what should I do?
Hey anon! Please email us at [email protected] with the name and email address that you applied with and your love letter samples and we will add those to your application! Thank you!
can you please consider changing your graphics? they're currently so illegible from an accessibility perspective... the light blue and purple on white have such low contrast, not even accounting for the tiny messy script fonts & various cursives that make letters look like other letters.
Hello anon,
Thank you so much for bringing this up! Due to our own accessibility needs across the mod team, all of our graphics have been pre-made in advance for several months now. We have endeavoured to make sure that the text of each soc-med post contains the same relevant information as the graphic does, so moving forward we will add alt-text to transcribe the extra commentary and text within the graphics, keeping in mind the limitations of each platforms, which has alt-text character limits.
hi! i just wanted to clarify if the mods contributing as writers are included in the total number of writers listed in the info doc? i've reread the info doc a few times and found the wording on that particular part a little confusing, sorry!
Hello anon! Sorry for the confusion--we will be taking 8 writing contributors from our application pool (6 fic writers and 2 love letter writers) AND they will be added to the total writer count along with the mods and 1 guest, for a total of 12 writers.
So, in summary, we will have 3 mods writing, 1 guest, 6 fic contributors and 2 love letter contributors!
We hope this explanation clarifies things, but if not please let us know!
Hi mods! Really excited for this project and wish y'all the best with your Interest Check! This might seem like a silly question, but I was wondering if you anticipate Larry Butz will appear in the zine? I only ask because his dynamic with Maya is really triggering to me, and I don't know if I could apply to a zine that portrays his dynamic with Maya in a positive light. No worries either way and best of luck! (Also I'd appreciate it if you didn't post the answer to this question on twt if possible!)
Hi there anon, thanks for reaching out! (Don't worry, we won't post this one on the Twitter!) We anticipate that it is highly unlikely that Larry will appear in the zine, but we cannot guarantee with 100% certainty that it won't happen, since contributors will have as much freedom as possible within their pieces. While FranMaya is and will be required to be the focus of each piece, there may end up being a contributor who is interested in having Larry as a background character, due to his relationship with Misty Fey.
We understand if you can't join the project for that reason, and wish you all the best! If you still were interested in potentially buying the zine, feel free to send us an email during pre-orders and at that point we can tell you if Larry is in the zine at all, and thus if it's safe for you to buy. (No worries at all if you don't feel comfortable buying it all though!)
I ask this with all respect to the team, especially Elle, but I was wondering if Elle had COMPLETED any projects as a finance mod. OR another mod on the team has finance mod experience SPECIFICALLY to supervise. I can't find any of Elle's projects beyond what's listed on your socials, & due to experiences with an inexperienced finance mod, am incredibly hesitant if there is no experience on the team, & none of the current projects are in production. I don't have a more sensitive way to word this—I'm sorry
Hi anon,
Elle here! Thank you for your interest in the project. I am so glad that you want to see Lavender Blue handled correctly, and I want to assure you that we do, too! However, you're exactly right: you won't find any projects that I've worked on through the fulfillment stage. That's because this year is the first time I'm applying my career experience to fandom. I have, in both paid and volunteer positions, been the point of contact for project finances. As part of my work, I have also worked with printing services and have been the point of contact for custom merchandise orders.
I understand that these skills apply somewhat differently in the zine sphere, but I am learning a lot from the folks I'm working with on current projects, and I'm very excited to dig into the more hands-on aspects of this type of position as the other projects I'm part of move closer to the ends of their creation periods! That said, I completely understand your hestitation to trust someone new in such a critical position. Please rest assured that although I am the person designated to perform certain processes and communications for this project, we are approaching the zine as a team.
Further, I have been careful to limit the projects I'm involved in and schedule them carefully so that I am always able to prioritize those at more critical points. I'm also only taking part in projects about which I feel personally passionate and with teams I am confident in. All of these things also contribute to the project's overall success.
I hope this eases your concerns somewhat! If you have specific questions, you are always welcome to reach out to me via any of my socials listed on our Carrd.
Thank you again for reaching out!
Hiiii. So, I'm really really excited for this, both to apply as a contributor and to see everyone else's work! I had a question about writer apps, though--
I've written 40+ stories for AA, most of them Franmaya, but I've got a bit of a narrative fixation and like to just write the same trope over and over again. Will the lack of variety hurt my chances at being picked? I've never submitted multiple works to a zine app before is all.
Okay, thanks so much! Also, your tumblr ask is closed, just a heads up!
Hello anon! So for the application process, it won't hurt your chances at being picked, however we must stress that if you were picked, then during the creation process you would have to pitch two different story ideas that focus on FranMaya-- so different plot, different conflict, different trope or different time period in canon etc--and be comfortable writing for either of those ideas.
The pitching process makes sure that there is a good variety of stories and art with different themes and tropes, so sometimes contributors second pitches are chosen to help meet those zine goals.
Thank you for understanding and the support!
