I adore that. They both keep creating circumstances where they have to go on a car ride, not realising the other’s doing it. Bear loves the weight and closeness. He loves looking down and seeing Puppy’s eyes half-closed as he slowly drifts off. He likes imagining Puppy’s head resting against his chest instead, so close to his heart that he can hear the rapid beat of it. Sometimes Puppy will look up at him, so close that Bear thinks about leaning down and kissing him, and then scold Bear for not keeping his eyes on the road.
Roadtrips are a good opportunity for the one bed trope as well. They stop at motels along the way and at first they get two seperate rooms, and then one room with two beds, until they rationalise that one bed is saving money so of course they should. Bear wales up one night with Puppy curled up to him, his head resting on his chest, and its like all his wishing has come true.
