The zine guidelines instruct writers to link to the full story in the samples. When giving trigger warnings, should these cover the full story as well, or just the content included in the samples?
Also, should the works in the portfolio be given trigger warnings as well? Is there a certain number of works that we should aim to include in the portfolio? Just wanted to clarify!
Thank you!
Just worry about the triggers for the sample itself. As for the portfolio: yes, triggers should be included. The number of pieces in your portfolio will vary but a good rule of thumb is to include at least 4-5 for a writing portfolio. Making sure there is range in those pieces will help as well.
Do the samples need to be Astarion-related? I don't have any non WIP or sketch art at hand ATM.
No. Your samples and/or portfolio do not need to include Astarion but it is encouraged.
Would you consider renaming the NSFW section if the contributors were uncomfortable with it? (Specifically, with the vague implication that sexual content is "bad", considering that ascension is the bad ending of Astarion's arc.)
The NSFW section will consist of not only sexual content but darker themes as well that aren't suitable for the main zine, such as extreme angst, gore, horror, Ascended Astarion, ect. The name is not there to imply that "sexual" content is bad nor should it be looked too far into. But as always, things are flexible and could change depending on needs. For now, though, it will remain.
Hi! Still confused about the "Tav" part of "Tav/X-Reader", please bear with me... If ships are allowed in the main section of the zine, then what is the distinction between a fic involving an Astarion/Tav ship and a "Tav" fic that would only be allowed in the Tav section?
All Tavs are considered OCs within this zine and those who want to create for their Tav and Astarion will be organized into this portion. X-Reader simply means from the reader's point of view with the focus still being on Astarion. This way those you want to still enjoy seeing others' Tavs can locate this potion more easily.
What is the planned ship distribution for this zine? I noticed Tav/OC content plans has its own selection on the application but other ships do not.
All ships with cannon characters will be included in the main zine and add-on, sprinkled throughout. They will be labeled and tagged as such for those who want to either avoid or locate said ships. Tav/OCs have their own portion within both to keep it organized and easier to find for those who want to enjoy that section.
Would you mind explaining what Tav/X-Reader means? Does it mean the reader is supposed to be Astarion?
Tav/X-Reader means that contributors are allowed to include their OCs in a bigger role (romanticly or friendly) or from the reader's point of viw with Astarion being their main interaction focus.
I think I saw the answer to this before but I can’t remember, are WIPs allowed as samples? Because I have a couple of unpublished fics but they’re all WIPs and not finished.
WIPs are allowed as samples but having more completed works is advised since that will give us a better idea of your skillset.
Can you clarify the difference between general SFW/NSFW categories and Tav/x Reader categories? Are SFW/NSFW categories for other Astarion ships? (Sorry if this is a silly question!)
The main section/zine will be SFW with a Tav/X-Reader portion attached to it. The NSFW section will be an add-on that has no Tav/X-Reader content at this time but that is subject to change depending on how apps go.
As for ships, not all content has to be ship-centric. We welcome general Astarion ideas and pieces as well to add to the variety. Both sections will have a mix of both general and ship content.
We will reword it on our Carrd to help with clarity.
When sharing AO3 links as samples in our application, should the work be publicly available? I have set most of my works to be only available to those with an AO3 account.
Having works available to read publicly would be preferred but most of the Mod team have Ao3 accounts, so we should be able to access them.
How long do we have to respond to the contributor email?
There will be a timeframe of a week to respond to contributor emails once they have been sent. Contributor apps will close June 1st and the mod team will have to sort through them before sending out emails. We hope to have emails out on June 1st unless more time is needed to go through all the applications.
I was wondering about the background art requirements! Do you guys need a landscape piece, or a full body piece with an environment (e.g. a room)? I don’t really do detailed backgrounds, so I’m assuming that would disqualify me? Could you define what exactly you’re looking for? Thank you!! I‘m really excited about this, so I just want to make sure I’d have a chance.
Not having a super detailed background isn't going to disqualify you. We would like to see how you use the negative space surrounding your subject matter though. Backgrounds can be super detailed, nature, rooms, minimal or super abstract. It'll depend on your own personal style. Them being landscape or full body doesn't matter too much since it's the skills put into the piece we'll be looking at.
I'm thinking of applying as a writer and noticed an option to write a journal entry/letter... Would these be written from Astarion's pov? Written about him? Written to him? Just want to make sure I'm interpreting correctly <3
As of right now, they'll be from his point of view as in from his personal journal.
Do you guys have a finance mod with experience joining in on this event?
We do not plan on handling any money. How it will work unless something changes is this: individuals wanting to purchase the zine will donate at least a minimum (yet to be decided) to the chosen charity, take a screenshot of the receipt, and will need to upload it to a form during the pre-order phase in order to get the zine(s) sent to their emails. This way no one in the zine is held liable for whatever reason, Paypal doesn't give us issues for having a NSFW section, and everyone has the freedom to donate what they want as long as it meets the minimum requirement.
Would 3D art be accepted in this zine?
Yes, 3D art is still art and we encourage artists who dabble in that medium to apply.
My fandom email is the same as all my fandom socials, and I'm definitely not willing to use my irl/personal email for a fandom event, so I really don't see how I can make a Google doc anonymous... my Google account name/email is gonna be right there at the top of the page.
That is totally fine. We understand that this isn't feasible for everyone and as stated in the application form, linking your socials or the like will not count against you. We do not look at names but the overall skills and creativity of the application.
